Christina has been the General Manager at the Chamber since 2009. She started her career in advertising and media relations, working first in London before moving to Lisbon, where she spent 10 years living and working in advertising and media related businesses. Having built a successful book and contract magazine publishing business in Portugal, with offices in Lisbon and the Algarve, in 1996 she sold the business and returned to London. She then continued her career in magazine and book publishing, working in senior roles at Archant Specialist Media, Virgin Books, and Bath-based publishers Merricks Media. She became a director of the Chamber in 2006. Christina runs the Moving to Portugal seminars and introduces the speakers.

Michael is the CEO of AFPOP, the largest association for foreign residents and property owners in Portugal. AFPOP was established in 1987 and currently has a Membership of over 6,754 Members from over 40 countries, with British Members making up over 55% of the total. Michael moved to Portugal in late 2002 and in March 2003 was appointed CEO of the Association. He has worked outside the UK on 3 occasions, twice in Portugal and once in the Caribbean as First Mate of a luxury yacht. Returning to the UK in 1992 Michael worked in the Nottinghamshire Police communication centre, rising to the position of Control Room Manager, before he decided it was time to look for pastures new.
AFPOP – Portugal’s largest Foreign Residents’ Association
AFPOP is the Association of Foreign Property Owners in Portugal and since 1987 it has been providing information and support to its members, who either own property or live in Portugal. One of the major problems with moving to a new country is knowing who to ask when you need information. Not only does AFPOP assist its members in finding answers to their questions, but through its regular UPDATE magazine and “News from AFPOP” e-mails, the Association often provides information to its members about law changes and other issues before they even know they need to ask the question.
